The importance of the (Personal Needs Allowance) or P.N.A for many nursing facilities or State Developmental Center residents cannot be overstated.Residents need this allowance to fulfill varied personal needs such as clothing,individual preferences on personal care items, social support (telephone, stationery, etc.), and occasional outings.
The purpose of this bill (S-1028) is to increase the monthly personal needs allowance to $50.00 for persons living in nursing facilities and State Developmental Centers or psychiatric hospitals and to ensure that, in the future, the allowance is increased annually according to the increase in the federal cost-of-living. Why is that New Jersey has gotten $35.00 monthly for the past 10 years or more. (SYNOPSIS) That people currently residing in a nursing home, State hospitals, or State Developmental Centers should get a increase in there personal needs allowance from $35.00 monthly to $50.00 monthly
